Malagasy Rainbow Frog
This piece was inspired by the the Malagasy rainbow frog (Scaphiophryne gottlebei). It’s cast in hard white gypsum and carefully hand-painted. It measures about 1.75” (4.5cm) in diameter.
This species lives in the canyons of the Isalo Massif, where they climb vertical sandstone walls. When threatened, they squash themselves against the rock to blend into the colors around them, flattening their round little bodies as much as they can. Despite their bold patterns, they’re surprisingly shy, spending much of their time tucked away in narrow crevices.
